  1. Tap Start gyroscope

    On iPhone, Safari asks for Motion and Orientation access. Choose Allow.

  2. Tilt the phone forward and sideways

    The marker slides toward the low edge and the pitch and roll angles change.

  3. Spin the phone flat

    Yaw changes as you turn the phone on a table. Rotation speed shows how fast it is turning.

  4. Stop or reset

    Stop keeps the last values on screen. Reset clears them for another try.

If the marker follows the phone and rotation speed changes, your gyroscope works

Gyro aiming in games and VR head tracking both rely on this sensor. A phone that passes here has the hardware.

If pitch and roll change but rotation speed stays unavailable, the phone may have no gyroscope

Some budget phones estimate tilt from the accelerometer alone. Games that need a gyroscope will not offer gyro controls.

If nothing changes, the browser is not getting sensor data

Desktop browsers and some private modes have no motion sensors. Open the page on the phone and allow motion access.

  1. Allow motion access again

    On iPhone, reload the page and tap Start to get the prompt back. On Android, allow Motion sensors in the site settings, then retest.

  2. Use the phone, not a computer

    Laptops and desktops rarely have a gyroscope. Open this page in Chrome or Safari on the phone and tap Start.

  3. Turn off rotation lock and restart

    Some phones pause sensors while locked or in battery saver. Unlock rotation, restart, and try again.

  4. Calibrate in the phone's own tool

    Samsung's *#0*# menu and many Android settings menus include a sensor screen. Calibrate there, then retest here.

  • The browser rounds, throttles, and sometimes fuses sensor values. This page shows response, not calibrated accuracy.
  • Yaw comes from DeviceOrientationEvent and is not a reliable compass heading in every browser.
  • Game input lag cannot be measured here. A working gyroscope on this page does not rule out lag inside a game.
Does my phone have a gyroscope?

If the marker follows the phone and the rotation speed numbers change when you turn it, yes. Nearly every phone made since 2015 has one, apart from some budget models.

What does a gyroscope detect?

It measures how fast the phone rotates around three axes, in degrees per second. Phones combine it with the accelerometer to work out tilt and direction.

What is the difference between a gyroscope and an accelerometer?

A gyroscope senses rotation speed. An accelerometer senses movement and gravity, which gives tilt. Try the accelerometer test to compare.

Why does gyro aiming feel delayed in games?

Delay comes from the game, the screen, and the phone's processing, not the sensor alone. A browser page cannot measure that latency.
