  1. Click each button inside the box

    Press left, right, middle, back, and forward. The matching part of the mouse diagram lights up and its count goes up.

  2. Spin the wheel both ways

    Scroll up, then down, then sideways if your wheel tilts. The arrows above and below the wheel flash for each step.

  3. Move and drag across the box

    Move the pointer around to draw a trail. Hold a button while moving to draw a thicker line and confirm dragging works.

  4. Watch the fast repeat counter

    Click once at a time. If one press counts twice within 80 milliseconds, the counter goes up and the log shows the gap.

If a button lights up, it works

If a button turns blue when you press it and its count goes up, the switch, cable, and connection all work for that button.

If a button never lights up, it is not reaching the computer

If the count stays at zero after several presses, the switch or the cable is failing, or software is taking the button before the browser sees it.

If fast repeats appear, the switch may be worn

If a single press counts twice within 80 milliseconds, the switch is bouncing. Use the double click test to confirm it over more clicks.

If the trail is jagged, the sensor is skipping

If a slow, straight movement draws a line with jumps or gaps, the sensor is losing tracking. Try a different surface before blaming the mouse.

  1. Clean the sensor and the surface

    Wipe the sensor window and use a plain mousepad. Move slowly across the box and check that the trail is smooth.

  2. Reconnect or change the port

    Unplug the mouse or receiver, wait a few seconds, and use a different USB port. Click each button again.

  3. Close remapping software and extensions

    Quit mouse utilities, macro tools, and gesture extensions. They can rename or swallow buttons. Reload this page and press the button again.

  4. Check the side buttons in your mouse software

    Back and forward are often assigned to other actions in the vendor app. Set them to their default and press them again here.

  5. Try another computer

    If a button still never lights up, test the mouse on another computer. If it fails there too, the switch is faulty.

  • The page sees pointer and wheel events after the operating system, drivers, and extensions have handled them, so a button they intercept never shows here.
  • It cannot measure switch life, sensor accuracy, configured DPI, or polling rate. Use the polling rate and DPI tests for those.
How do I test my mouse?

Click every button inside the box on this page, spin the wheel, and move the mouse around. Each working button lights up on the diagram, the wheel arrows flash, and the trail shows movement. A button that stays dark after several presses is not reaching the computer.

How can I test if my middle mouse button is working?

Press the wheel down inside the box. The wheel on the diagram turns blue and the Middle count goes up. Outside the box, a middle click on a link opens a new tab and can start autoscroll, so this page keeps it inside the test area.

How do I tell if my mouse is bad?

Look for repeatable problems: a button that misses presses, a press that counts twice, a wheel that skips or reverses, or a trail with jumps. Test it on another computer. If the same fault appears there, the mouse is failing.

Why does a side button not light up?

The browser, mouse software, or an extension has taken it for navigation or a macro. Reset those buttons to default in your mouse app and press them again here.

Is this a click speed test?

No. This page checks that each button and the wheel work. To count clicks per second, use the CPS test.
