Read the peak and the average
The big number is your speed right now. Peak is the fastest second, and average covers the whole run.
Reset and try again
Reset clears the run. Try a free-spin mode or a different mouse and compare the peak.
What the result means
Match what you see to one of these.
If the peak is in the low thousands, that is a notched wheel
If your peak sits between about 1,000 and 5,000 pixels per second, you are turning a notched wheel by hand. That is the normal range.
If the peak is far higher, the wheel is free-spinning
If the peak reaches tens of thousands of pixels per second, the wheel is in free-spin mode or the trackpad is adding momentum.
If the unit is lines or mixed, compare with care
If the unit shows lines or mixed units, your system reports scrolling differently. Compare only runs that use the same unit.
Troubleshooting
If the test fails, try these in order.
Keep the pointer inside the box
Scrolling outside the box does not count. Move the pointer back in and run again.
Turn off smooth scrolling
Smooth scrolling in the browser or mouse app spreads steps out and can lower the peak. Turn it off and run again.
Use the wheel test for skips
If steps seem to go missing, use the mouse wheel test to look for skips, then come back and run the speed test again.
What this test can't tell you
Where a browser check stops.
- Speed is measured from the scroll amounts the browser reports, which depend on your system scroll settings, so scores from different setups are not comparable.
- The test does not measure physical wheel speed, encoder resolution, or latency.

How is scroll speed calculated?
The page adds up the scroll amount from every wheel event in the last second and shows it as pixels per second. Peak is the highest value during the run, and average is the total distance divided by the run length.
What is a good scroll speed?
A notched wheel turned by hand usually peaks between 1,000 and 5,000 pixels per second. Free-spin wheels and trackpad momentum go much higher, so compare like with like.
Why does my result use lines instead of pixels?
Some systems report wheel movement in lines or pages rather than pixels. The unit card shows which one you got. Change the scroll settings in your operating system if you want pixel values.
